Are you burnt out or bored-out?

You’ve heard of burnout but what about being bored-out?

This is a term I learned yesterday in  an ABC news article and I instantly connected with it.

Bored-out is a term that refers to being under stimulated and de-energised by your job role which leads to feeling down or depressed.

While there’s a lot of talk about compassion fatigue and burnout therapists, it’s also true that therapists can feel bored-out.

Lately I’ve been hearing this kind of theme from the therapists I coach and mentor.

They don’t feel excited by their work.

They are tired of sitting in a small room day after day.

They notice an irritation with the same themes occurring in their client work.

They feel bored-out.

This can feel taboo to say because therapists pride themselves on being curious and caring people.

I’m here to tell you even curious and caring people can get bored with their role.

If you’re feeling the signs of bored-out, it’s a sign that it’s time to pivot or change things up.

That might be additional income streams, changing jobs or something else.

In this week’s episode of Thriving Therapist Talk: Business and Marketing Tips for Therapists, special guest Caroline Burrows owner of Mindful Living and Caroline Burrows Training and Consulting joins me and we talk about her pivot from 1:1 therapy and how she listened to her instincts that it was time to challenge herself and do something different.
