The Power of Letting Go

What if instead of doing something more to thrive, you needed to stop doing something?

For those of you who have been to my bootcamps or worked with me, you know I talk about strategies and efforts we use that don’t work.

I’m big on identifying those so you can use your energy and time wisely because both are finite resources.

So it hit me like a brick recently that I needed to stop doing some of the things that I have been doing.

Things that used to work but in the last 18 months have not been working for me and worst, suck a lot of my time and energy.

This recent reflection has led to me moving on from the admin role of Australian Psychologists in Private Practice Peer Support, a facebook group I founded 5 years ago that has grown to 5000 members.

I’m so proud of the safe and ethical community that I created and I was a little afraid of what the consequences of letting it go might be.

But I couldn’t ignore that the workload and responsibilities had become too much for me and that private practice issues are not where my passion lies.

My passion is not private practice issues – it’s for helping therapists have amazing careers, and teaching therapists applied skills to work with trauma.

In holding on to the admin role that felt like an increasingly heavy weight, I was clinging to past goals and past versions of me.

It’s time to reclaim the time and energy that the responsibility of guiding the facebook group was taking up.

It’s time to see where that extra time and energy can take me in the next 5 years of my life.

If you want to feel lighter and more energised consider these three questions:

– What do I do that I resent the time and energy that the activity / behaviour is taking up?

– Is the time and energy spent on that activity or habit yielding the impact I want?

– What am I clinging to that no longer serves me?
